Tanq keeps your notes private: we don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps, and we only use what you capture to run Tanq for you.
Effective date: September 27, 2026
Who we are
Tanq is made by Kluniverse LLC ("Kluniverse," "we," "us"). This policy explains what the Tanq app for iPhone and its related services collect, why, and the choices you have. If you have a question, write to us at support@kluniverse.biz.
What we collect
What you create. Voice recordings, transcripts, notes, tasks, tags, and the chats you have with Tanq about your notes. This is your content, and we treat it that way.
Account details. If you create an account or turn on sync, we collect what's needed to run it, such as your email address or the private relay address Apple provides through Sign in with Apple.
Device and usage data. Basic technical information such as device model, iOS version, app version, crash reports, performance data, and a device identifier we use to apply usage limits. We design our diagnostics to leave out the content of your notes.
Things you choose to connect. If you connect other services, such as a note storage location, your calendar, your email, or smart glasses, we access only what that feature needs, and only after you give permission.
Permissions on your phone. Tanq asks for the microphone and speech recognition to capture voice notes. You can turn these off in iOS Settings at any time; typing still works.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, health data, or payment card details. Apple handles all payments.
How the AI features handle your notes
Tanq uses two kinds of AI, and each note only goes as far as the feature you're using needs.
On your iPhone. Many features, such as transcribing and tidying a new capture, run on your device with Apple's built-in AI. That content stays on your phone. Some Apple features may use Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which Apple designs so your data is not stored or seen by Apple.
In the cloud. Features like brainstorming, rewriting, chatting about a note, and web research send the relevant text to our server, which passes it to our AI provider, Anthropic (the maker of Claude), and returns the answer to you. Under our agreement, Anthropic does not use this content to train its models. Research requests may include a web search based on your question.
Your own AI key. If a future version lets you connect your own AI provider account, requests on that tier go to the provider you pick, under their terms.
We never use your notes to train AI models, and we don't read your notes except when you ask us to for support, or when the law requires it.
How we use your information
We use it to run Tanq: capture and store your notes, sync them across your devices, power the AI features you use, apply fair usage limits, answer support requests, keep the service secure, and find and fix bugs. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't build profiles about you to sell or share.
Who we share it with
We share information only with companies that help us run Tanq, and only what they need:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Hosts our server and the sync service |
| Anthropic | Runs the cloud AI features |
| Grafana Labs | Stores app performance and error data |
| Apple | On-device AI, Sign in with Apple, app distribution, and payments |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of Kluniverse, in which case this policy continues to apply. We do not sell your personal information.
Where your notes live and how we protect them
Your notes are kept on your iPhone so you can capture and read them without a connection. If you turn on sync, your notes and tasks are protected with end-to-end encryption before they leave your device. If you choose to keep your notes in a place you pick, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or GitHub, that provider's own privacy terms cover the copy stored there.
No system is perfectly secure, but we use encryption in transit and at rest, limit who can access systems, and keep the data we hold to what we need.
How long we keep it
We keep your content for as long as your account is active or until you delete it. When you delete a note it is removed from our servers within 30 days, and backups roll off within 90 days. Diagnostic data is kept for up to 90 days. If you delete your account, we delete your data except where the law requires us to keep something.
Your choices and rights
You can see, edit, export, and delete your notes in the app at any time. You can delete your account from Settings, or by writing to us. You can turn off microphone, speech, and other permissions in iOS Settings, and disconnect any service you connected.
Depending on where you live, including California and the European Economic Area and UK, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or limit some uses, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Write to us at support@kluniverse.biz and we'll respond within the time the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
Tanq is not meant for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Users outside the United States
Kluniverse is based in the United States, and our providers process data here. By using Tanq you understand your information will be handled in the U.S., where we protect it as this policy describes.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change, we'll update the effective date above and let you know in the app before it takes effect.
